The new treatment method is designed to prevent or slow the progression of the disease prior to injections.
The procedure is aimed at the duodenum. It plays an important role in digestion, including regulating insulin and blood sugar levels. In patients with type 2 diabetes, the cells lining the duodenum are damaged, and the study’s hypothesis is that removing these cells will help healthy cells regrow and improve blood sugar regulation. The procedure takes about an hour and the patient is discharged on the same day.
Initial results look encouraging. But we still have a lot of work ahead of us.
