Yesterday, September 18, RuTracker, which is the most used Russian-language BitTorrent tracker, noted swot. At the same time, the birth of the BitTorrent protocol itself took place three years before RuTracker saw the light of day.
RuTracker gained impressive popularity after relatively inexpensive access to the Web using ADSL technology began to spread in Russia, offering users megabit speeds.
Over the entire period of registration on the RuTracker service, about 40 million users have passed, which today are considered active by a little less than 15 million.

Despite problems with copyright holders, the delegation of the torrents.ru domain name suspended in 2010 and the subsequent blocking of the rutracker.org address, the service continues to actively engage in sports.
For example, in 2020, the total volume of all giveaways exceeded 4 PB, and in 2021, the crowdfunding help service raised about 2 million rubles to purchase hard drives needed to store rare and exclusive giveaways.
This year, against the backdrop of the complicated political situation and the release of films from Hollywood in Russia, a proposal appeared to unblock RuTracker, but the Russian authorities have not yet accepted any steps.
