a survey conducted by Reuters In partnership with Oxford University, it concluded: More than half of Brazilians have at least some confidence in the news received by WhatsApp The results also show the level of trust in the news available on Google, YouTube and received by Facebook and Instagram.
2,000 people in Brazil were interviewed about the reliability of the news they found on the internet. Adding “a lot of trust” and “a little trust” responses, 53% of respondents said they trust WhatsApp.
Google had the highest reliability rating, with 57% of respondents saying they trust the platform’s news very little or very little. Other applications failed to reach 50%. YouTube had the lowest rates at 46%, Facebook 40% and Instagram, with 39% of respondents saying they had at least some confidence in the news available on the platform.
According to Camila Mont’Alverne, lead author of the Reuters research report, WhatsApp’s success in people’s trust is related to the familiarity of its users with the platform. “The fact that they’re platforms that people use a lot and find useful is probably related to their level of trust,” she says.
