Commercial banks of Armenia will independently decide the issue of servicing Russian Mir cards. Private organizations manage their own risks, including those associated with sanctions.

The Central Bank of Armenia left the banks the right to make decisions on the service of Mir cards

This was reported on September 20 at the Central Bank of Armenia in response to a request from Public Television, reports Aysor.

The issue arose due to the fact that some local media reported about the termination of service of Mir cards on the territory of the republic.

Previously, the Vietnamese BIDV and the People’s Bank of Kazakhstan suspended the acceptance of Russian Mir cards. BIDV continues to work with VISA, Mastercard, Western Union, JCB, UnionPay, but not with Mir cards.

The People’s Bank of Kazakhstan said that the cards of the Russian payment system are not served either through terminals or ATMs. Call centers of other Kazakh banks reported that they serve Mir cards.

Turkish banks Isbank and Denizbank have stopped serving Mir cards since September 16. The banks made the decision in the face of possible sanctions from the United States: before, the country’s Ministry of Finance announced the consequences for working with the Mir card.

In Russia, from November 1 of this year, about 30 regional social payments will be transferred directly from the budget to the Mir card. For example, compensation for housing and communal services and capital repairs, subsidies for the purchase of a house and the down payment of a mortgage, special scholarships, etc.
