Portugal from October 30 will issue visas to “digital nomads”. Those who are not citizens of the EU countries or the European Economic Area may request it. Visa holders will be able to live in Portugal while working for a company in another country.

Portugal to introduce visas for “digital nomads”

The candidate must be a tax resident of Portugal and have a salary four times higher than the national average, above $3.2 thousand per month (~200 thousand rubles), CNBC reports. For confirmation, the candidate will be asked for a certificate of income for the last three months.

Likewise, the applicant must prove that they are self-employed or remotely employed, that is, prove the presence of work or self-employment. Another requirement is that the candidate must not be a citizen of an EU country or the European Economic Area.

Similar visas are already issued in Croatia, Greece and Iceland. Authorities in Italy and Spain discussed plans to launch the program.

In August, Kyrgyzstan invited Russian IT specialists to become its “digital nomads.” The regime will allow living in Kyrgyzstan without registration and without issuing a work permit.
