Google has shut down the Hangouts messaging service. Most of the data and contacts of the users of the service will be transferred to Google Chat. Hangouts launched in 2013.
The Google Hangouts instant messaging service has been unavailable since November 1, TechCrunch noted. Previously, the service’s apps disappeared from the App Store and Google Play stores.
Most Hangouts user data, including contacts and messages, will be migrated to Google Chat.
Google Hangouts was created in 2013, the app has amassed 5 billion downloads on Google Play. In 2015, the service had a web version.
Google’s plans to shut down Hangouts were unveiled in July 2022. The company said user data will be automatically transferred to Google Chat.
