Sleepwalking, in other words sleepwalking or parasomnia, is an incomplete transition between deep slow sleep and wakefulness. It has a pronounced heredity, but does not threaten health. Sleepwalking is dangerous in everyday life – if a person stumbles or crashes.

In practice, sleepwalking is most common in children aged 5-7 years, episodes become less frequent with age, and may cease completely in most patients. The doctor noted that despite the presence of drugs for sleepwalking in medicine, they are used extremely rarely, in addition, these drugs have pronounced side effects.

The causes of sleepwalking are usually insomnia, stress, increased stress, infectious diseases that occur with high body temperature. Also, sleepwalking can be provoked by living conditions, for example, when it is very hot during sleep.

“The doctor’s task in such a situation is only to make sure that a neurological disease such as epilepsy is not lurking behind sleepwalking, and to talk about the need for a safe arrangement of the bedroom (absence of sharp corners, sharp objects, if necessary, special locks on windows and doors), as well as a person from them provoking factors for avoidance,” explained Zavalko.

News cannot be equated with a doctor’s prescription. Consult an expert before making a decision.
