Billionaire Ruben Vardanyan lost ownership of part of his assets after announcing his intention to renounce Russian citizenship. Vardanyan re-registered most of his businesses in the name of his wife Veronica Zonabend. The RB.RU correspondent drew attention to the change in the ownership structure in several companies of the businessman.
Experts interviewed by RB.RU believe that in most cases, if the owner renounces the citizenship of the country where it is registered, the assets remain with its owner, but it happens that in a particular country you can own only one asset if you have citizenship or at least a residence visa (residence permit).
In October 2022 there were changes in the ownership structure of several companies. Information about this appeared in the “Kontur.Focus” system.
In most cases, Ruben Vardanyan re-registered his shares in the name of his wife Veronica Zonabend. She became the owner of the following assets:

0.02% in Kew Capital LLC on October 19 (conducting a financial audit),

100% in Novagro LLC on October 31 (growing crops in the Zaraysk urban district),

100% in MC Avika LLC (management and business consulting) October 19,

100% in the Noôdome community (Ervez LLC) October 19,

55% in Innova Cosmetics LLC, which sells products from the South Korean cosmetics brand Evercell, on October 31,
-
100% in LLC “Phoenix Group” (activities in the field of law) October 19,
-
70% in Mediacrat Advertising Agency LLC October 11.
In addition, a 75% stake in Vardanyan, Broitman and Partners LLC, a private investment firm that manages the assets of Ruben Vardanyan and his partners, was transferred to Mikhail Broitman on October 20.
Vardanyan’s representatives did not respond to a request from RB.RU.

If the owner of the assets renounces the citizenship of the country where they are registered, most often they remain with the owner, although it happens that in a particular country you can only own an asset if you have citizenship or at least a residence permit, ReLOC expert Sevan Avalyan told RB.RU.
“In the situation with Ruben Vardanyan’s denial of Russian citizenship on his assets, it may be important that some of his companies are subject to special regulation in recent years, when foreign participation in the company is specially regulated and its size is limited. ”, pointed out the expert.
In such a case, in order to meet the requirements of Russian law, the transfer of rights may be made in the first place to meet the requirements of Russian law.
Now it’s almost impossible to predict whether attitudes toward brands will change when ownership changes, says Andrey Ionochkin, chief executive of branding agency Brandkey. Only after a while will it be possible to understand “to what extent the personality of Ruben Vardanyan was the key to trust and ensure the reliability of the brands.”
