Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta company (recognized as an extremist in the Russian Federation and banned) leaves the Portal project, a smart screen for video calls, and also suspends the development of smart watches.
The prerequisites for the reduction of the Portal project became apparent in June, according to The Verge, and now the information has been officially presented.
After the dismissal of 11 thousand employees, of which 46% were directly related to the development of hardware technologies, the company’s management in a meeting at the local mayor’s office announced the freezing of Portal.
Development of two new smartwatches, which at the time of design did not even have names, were also suspended.
The rejection of “smart” watches under the supposed name of Milan became known in the summer. They were originally scheduled to hit the market in spring 2023 at a price of around $349.
Meta does not comment on the situation.
Of the hardware technologies the company is developing, the Meta Quest Pro VR headset continues to be the focus of management.
