Digital Foundry has tested a Mac port of Resident Evil Village with M1 Pro and M1 Max processors.

Particularly noteworthy was Apple’s MetalFX API, a scaling box that was heavily used in porting games. She became a competitor to DLSS and FSR2.

The quality of MetalFX in 4K compared to native 4K results in an analytical level of detail. The picture is not inferior in detail and anti-aliasing to the same Xbox Series X console at 3x the image size, and in some laptops even ahead of the console.

The MetalFX Quality mode has its advantages. For example, discocclusion artefacts – when there are detected signs that cause disturbances – are minimal. When the player moves quickly, the level of detail is at a high level.
