Twitter Inc. CEO Elon Musk wants to add encrypted video chat, calls and private messages to the social network, Insider writes.

Musk reveals what features could be coming to Twitter 2.0

The businessman became the new owner of Twitter at the end of October. After completing the purchase of the company, Musk laid off 50% of the employees and dissolved the board of directors. The employer suggested that the remaining team members prepare for intensive work and either accept a new “tough culture” or resign. Some employees accused the employer of creating a toxic environment and announced on Twitter his unwillingness to continue working.

According to the publication, during the presentation of his vision of “Twitter 2.0”, Musk announced his intention to expand the functionality of the social network, complementing it with video chat, calls and secure messaging.

The Twitter boss added that he had already discussed the messenger idea with Signal founder Moxie Marlinspike, who previously worked for the company and is “potentially ready to help” with development. According to Musk, Marlinspike could have created an encrypted messenger for the social network a few years ago, but it was rejected by the company’s previous management. He also stressed that Twitter will allow secure calls, since the network account does not require a connection to a mobile phone.

Musk had previously postponed the rollout of Twitter Blue subscriptions until the alias issue was resolved.
