An experiment on the online sale of domestic wine in Moscow and the region will be launched from November 1, 2023. It will last until July 31, 2026. This is stated in the government bill, with which Izvestia got acquainted.

Online sales of Russian alcohol will start in November 2023

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce proposed starting an experiment in food, strong alcohol and electronic labeling this year. Market representatives believe that the introduction of labeling is not a timely measure. Companies fear huge costs for their industries. The new measures can harm both producers and consumers, since they can increase prices, for example, of fishery products, by at least 10-20%.

The “Honest Sign” national labeling system has been implemented in Russia since 2018 to combat the illegal movement of goods. The system is already mandatory for medicines, cigarettes, mineral water, dairy products, some children’s products and other categories.

Drinks can be ordered on the Russian Post website, but delivery will not be fast – the company will start delivering products only a day after order confirmation.

Buyers will need to verify their age: show their passport to the courier service or use the Unified Identification and Authentication System.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce supported the legal sale of alcohol at a distance. The Ministry of Finance believes that the experiment will contribute to the development of Russian winemaking, as well as change the balance of demand in favor of domestic products. The health ministry objected. Since the deal is not public, alcohol may fall into the hands of minors, the ministry fears.
