Goznak allowed the return to circulation of five-ruble notes. They may be released next year. The new “old” banknotes will be improved by varnishing them.
Arkady Trachuk, general director of Goznak, announced a possible return to circulation of five-ruble notes. He specified that the issuance of ten ruble notes could also be resumed.
According to Trachuk, the notes may begin to be issued in 2023. The Goznak official suggested that low-denomination notes “we will be able to see them in greater volume next year.”
Five-ruble notes were printed only in 1997. It proved difficult to resume their production, Trachuk said. The new “old” banknotes will improve the lacquer of a part of the runs to extend the useful life.
The general director of Goznak specified that the useful life of the 50 and 100 ruble notes is approximately one year, while a coin can be in circulation for more than 20 years.
