Yandex will soon introduce its own electric scooters to replace the Chinese Ninebot. The development is carried out by the Wind company, which the corporation acquired last fall. It is planned to produce scooters at partner factories in China.

Yandex has developed its own electric scooter

By spring, Yandex intends to quadruple its scooter fleet to 70,000 units. It is planned to form up to 70% of the fleet from Yandex’s own scooters. The company also hopes to expand its regional expansion and enter the Kazakh market, Vedomosti learned.

The company representative said that the development of “Yandex” differs from other scooters in a number of security options, “its specificity takes into account urban conditions in Russia.” The exact characteristics and cost are not called.

Market analysts estimated the development at $10-15 million, while the cost of production may vary depending on the associated plant, materials, and batch sizes of scooters ordered.

In October 2022, the government approved changes to the traffic rules, the new rules apply to the use of electric scooters, gyro scooters and other similar vehicles. For them, they decided to limit the maximum speed to 25 km/h.

In this case, the weight of the electric transport must not exceed 35 kg. For electric vehicles of greater mass, circulation is allowed on the right side of the road. But this can be done by people over the age of 14 and only where the maximum speed is limited to 60 km/h, and cyclists are also allowed.
