Billing fines for technology companies for leaking personal data can be as high as 3%, said the head of the Ministry of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev.
The initiative to introduce fines for rotation came from the Ministry of Digital Development in April. Later, in July, the ministry announced the preparation of a corresponding version of the bill, which proposes to take into account the volume and criticality of leaks when imposing sanctions on the company. At the same time, those organizations that leaked data twice will face a turnover penalty. There is a fixed penalty for the first offense.
“A very serious problem with the leakage of personal data. In fact, this is a difficult situation. There is a position that we are doing well. The Ministry of Digital Development has drawn up a bill on the introduction of fines for billing. Very serious fines – up to 3% of the turnover is provided if the company does not guarantee data security, ”Shadayev said, as quoted by TASS.
At the same time, the minister noted that certification and attestation of the entire infrastructure in accordance with security requirements can serve as a mitigating factor for companies. Indulgences are also provided for in cases where the organization has compensated 2/3 of the clients for the damage caused by the leak.
Such a significant fine should motivate companies to invest more in their security systems, Shadayev believes.
Since the beginning of the month, the personal data of users of the Moscow Electronic School and Vkusvill clients have been made public. In the first case, 17 million lines leaked into the network.
