Notebook This is one of the historical Windows utilities, but it hasn’t changed much in spite of the years that have passed. At least until now. The fact is that Windows 11 works for change its interface and give it tabsto make it easier to work with different annotations without having to open multiple program windows.

The novelty became known over the weekend, and in a rather peculiar way. It was a Microsoft employee himself who shared a screenshot on Twitter showing the software’s updated aesthetic. “Windows 11 Notepad now has tabs!” the related tweet says.

However, the post disappeared after a few minutes. Right. This is the same program interface warned Redmond workers that they should not filter features in development. “Confidential – do not discuss features or take screenshots,” the red banner read. Obviously, this was not very efficient.

In addition to deleting the tweet, the image soon went viral on news portals. It is currently unknown when the Notepad update will be available in Windows 11, but it is speculated that it may reach members of the Insider Program. in the first months of 2023.

The updated app interface not only shows tabs that allow you to open different TXT files in one window. The traditional menu bar also appears, with options such as File, Edit, and View added to the gear icon on the right side of the window.

Windows 11 Notepad adds tabs and follows File Explorer steps.

With the inclusion of tabs in Notepad, Microsoft follows a line already seen in File Explorer. Recall that in Windows 11, it was possible to open different instances of the aforementioned tool in the same window. Something that is not only more aesthetically pleasing, but also more efficient when opening multiple folders.

The most striking thing about this case is that, as with File Explorer, Redmond was already experimenting with adding tabs to Notepad. This was early 2018 in Windows 10. At the time, the American firm decided to test adding this feature to the vast majority of its integrated apps. However, the test in question lasted a long time and the functions never made it into the final version of the operating system.

The revamped Notepad GUI seems to be part of the process that Microsoft has gone through. to improve the look of Windows 11. At launch, the operating system was criticized for being inconsistent and missing key features in some sections. However, over the course of the updates, the software restored many of the features lost compared to its predecessors and began the process of resurrecting historical instruments that were already in need of an update.

Let’s not forget that, in addition to File Explorer, Windows 11 has made important changes to the Task Manager. The said section, randomly divided into tabs since its inception, has changed its aesthetic to one more, similar to the OS settings screen. Thus, its main sections are now displayed in the menu on the left edge of the window. And to this we must add the intention of Microsoft to gradually forget about the historical control panel.
