The Ministry of Digital Development has equated the CDN service with hosting. Alexey Sokolov, director of infrastructure development at Yandex, spoke about the department’s decision during his speech at the 15th International TransNet Conference on Communication Backbones of the ComNews group, Vedomosti writes.

Hosting is the provision of services for maintaining servers on which software is installed, allowing the owner, for example, to deploy websites and upload content to them, and the user to access this server and receive content, explained Dmitry Petrov, General Director of Comfort.
According to experts, for large companies with revenues of 200 to 500 million rubles, investments in SORM can exceed 10 million rubles, and for small companies, innovation can make the CDN business unprofitable.
- In 2023, Russia proposed creating a national content distribution network, that is, placing its own servers that would speed up work with websites for end users. These servers were previously installed by foreign companies, but were removed after the start of a special operation in Ukraine.
