A recent study by scientists has shown how they manage to survive in such conditions. It turned out that it was all about a previously unknown protein that forms extremely strong hair-like structures.

These “feathers” are made up of separate segments that resemble tadpoles in shape. In this case, the “tail” of one segment is inserted into the “head” of the next. This design allowed individual archaeal cells to coalesce into a strong biofilm that protects against external influences.

Note that in 2021, information appeared on the Web that a tourist died at one of the geothermal springs of Yellowstone National Park – he fell into an acidic spring, after which his body dissolved in just one night.
