This afternoon, December 30, Tinkoff Bank announced that it is launching the sale of key fobs, charms and bracelets with contactless payment support.
You put one to the terminal and pay for the purchase, as if it were a bank card with an NFC chip.
So far, you can buy it only in one place – in Moscow, TC fleetisland Art Payments On the second floor.
I was just in the city, not far from the place where they are sold. I went, I bought, I tested. I share my findings briefly.
Where are Tinkoff payment accessories sold?
Islet find recovery. For example, on their website there are no details of his location in the mall. And the air park itself is rather big, to put it mildly.
I had to, as if in some kind of video game, passed the quest: I found their channel in the telegram, watched the sales announcement video, saw its sign in another store. Based on the location of this store on the shopping center map, I calculated the location of the island and, finally, successfully found it personally.
There are no queues, I came up, I liked what I liked and designed it. The process took about 5 minutes, if not less.
How much does a Tinkoff payment keychain cost?
The price depends on materials and models (naturally). For example:
▪ Keychain with polymer base: 1150 rubles
▪ Faux leather keychain: 1510 rubles
▪ Charm “Animals” made of polymer resin: 7750 rubles
▪ Slider “Animals” with a polymer coating: 14,350 rubles
▪ Slider “Animals” in the form of a mosaic: 55,200 rubles
To be honest, neither designs came to me, much less prices on most charms and key chains. I understand if there was at least silver and it would be desirable, but giving 14+ thousand for a shiny “polymer coating” … no thanks.
For me, the best options are the first and second from the list above. I’ve got two made of faux leather. I will give one to myself and give the other to my wife.
How the sale of key chains and jewelry with a card inside from Tinkoff Bank works
In short: come, buy, activate as a receipt or additional Tinkoff Bank card, use it.
All this goodness on the island can be freely viewed, tried on, and so on. In my presence, someone chose a charm for a bracelet. But there is no excitement, or I missed everything.
With myself the passport. It is not necessary to be a Tinkoff client before activating the accessory, but if they already exist, the process will take a little less time.
To activate the key fob, a Tinkoff employee fills out an agreement on the spot, you sign and paste the code into the SMS. After five minutes, the key fob can be used for contactless payment.
The key fob is activated on your Tinkoff bank account as additional card of Mir payment system. The application also displays as a card: there is a pin code, card number, expiration date and CVV. The cost of service is similar to any additional debit card of your tariff (at my tariff, such additional cards are free).
Important. If you want to buy such things as a gift, the owner will then personally, with a passport and a gift, go to the island in the Air Park and activate the accessory. Do not tear off the tag before activation! The consultants said that this is an important point, so we will write it down. So-so system, of course.
How the Tinkoff payment accessory works
Arrived and paid. Nothing unusual.
This is a keychain, charm or pendant, inside there is a bank card chip and an NFC antenna for contactless payments. In short, it’s just a compact bank card. You can’t insert it into the terminal, but with contactless ones it will work no lower than “plastic”.
I protested against key fobs in the Moscow metro and in stores. Zero problems.
You can also withdraw money from the key fob and privileged to it within the tariff limit at Tinkoff ATMs. They have contactless authentication.
Is it dangerous?
I wouldn’t be happy to lose him, that’s for sure.
If a bad person knows that he is dealing with such a key fob, then he can use it himself – until the moment you block the name card. External accessories do not “shine”, do not “scorch” that they can be imitated. It’s good.
Purchases worth more than 1000 rubles protected by pin code, which you install when you open the Tinkoff app for the first time after activating the key fob. Moreover, the pin code for such an accessory is publicly available. Next, a measure of additional protection.
In connection with all this, I would use exactly key chains. And chain them to the keys. At the same time, you can hang AirTag. The Apple label has been working for me in this capacity for a long time, so the new payment feature organically fit into the ring.
Now you can forget the card at home or not sculpt a cardholder on your iPhone, which has become an almost inseparable companion of many iPhone owners in Russia. This option suits me. Moreover, the card has not been presented in the terminal for probably three years.
Those who are relatively insecure about the prospect do not like such accessories, I completely understand. It is worth finding a payment sticker from Tinka or notions from other banks in time.
