The ChatGPT tool, an artificial intelligence that speaks naturally to its users, has caused mixed reviews and reactions since it was created by the company OpenAI. Some pointed to the model as the future of the internet, while others noted that the feature had some flaws that could be used in dangerous ways.
For example, cybersecurity researchers at Check Point Research (CPR) noticed: ChatGPT is used by cybercriminals to perfect malware and ransomware, or even create it from scratch.viruses that damage systems and steal data from victims.
The team responsible for the report noted that they found posts on underground hacker forums where cybercriminals discussed ways to create malware with the help of ChatGPT. This includes the so-called information thieves (malware that steals information from victims), encryption tools, and other malicious options.
In this sense, publications also say that artificial intelligence will be easy to use, that is, it will help even very experienced hackers to commit crimes.
illegal support
Also, the CPR study shows that some hackers use ChatGPT as support software for illegal operations. In one of the posts, a criminal would reveal that with the help of the OpenAI tool, other hackers had created a marketplace where they could exchange stolen items such as confidential data, weapons, and even drugs. Payments on the platform would be made via cryptocurrencies.
“Cybercriminals find ChatGPT very attractive. Recently, we’re seeing evidence that hackers are using it to generate malicious code,” warned Sergey Shykevich, head of Threat Intelligence at Check Point.
“ChatGPT has the potential to speed up their operations by giving hackers a good starting point. ChatGPT can be used for good purposes as well as for malicious purposes to help developers with their code. “It’s only a matter of time before complex threats emerge.”
