This Monday (9), Consumer Protection and Defense Foundation (Procon-SP), excitement after that data from millions of users internet leak. According to the agency, the goal is to get the company to verify the security incident and, if the response is positive, resolve the issue.

The notice requests Twitter to explain the reasons that triggered the millions of data leaks. The US company should also clarify what steps have been taken to repair the damage and explain how to prevent the problem from reoccurring. Elon Musk’s company should send the response by next Friday (13).

According to a website report BleepingComputerLeaks have surfaced More than 200 million email accounts of Twitter users. Additionally, usernames and follower counts were also leaked – the attacker would have been selling the files for just $2 (around R$10 at the current exchange rate).

Procon-SP and Twitter

“Procon-SP wants the company to explain what technical and organizational measures it has taken to comply with the provisions of Law No. 13.709/2018 – General Data Protection Law – and to clarify the purpose and legal basis of the processing of personal data, how the user’s consent is obtained, how long the data is received, for what purpose it is stored and what is its destruction policy”.

According to the report, there is more than 59GB of data obtained from thousands of users on the social network through an issue with the Twitter APIs. The breach was fixed in 2022, but the malicious hacker managed to retrieve the material before fixing it – at the end of December, another hacker announced that he had sold information from 400 million accounts.
