If you were to wonder which app took the least time to become one of the most popular in internet history, which one would you say was a success? As surprising as it may seem, the big winner was ChatGPT, the company’s tool, not Twitter or Facebook. OpenAIReleased in November 2022.
ChatGPT has become the fastest growing app online, gaining 100 million active users in just two months, according to a report by Swiss bank UBS. To get a clearer idea, the smart feature has far outstripped digital phenomena such as TikTok and Instagram.
ChatGPT took around 60 days to reach 100 million active users, while TikTok took nine months to reach the same number. Instagram, on the other hand, needed more time: it took two and a half years to reach the nine digits. It’s been four and a half years for Spotify. The UBS study used data from the Similar Web review site to draw its conclusions.
impressive growth
According to the document, the number of people using ChatGPT has nearly doubled since December last year, when the platform had 57 million users. On average, the OpenAI resource already aggregates about 13 million Internet users per day (there were 6 million unique users in December).
“In the 20 years we’ve been following the internet, we don’t remember growing an app any faster than that,” said one of the UBS analysts surveyed. So, it seems that ChatGPT is truly enduring and can guide the paths of the online future.
If you don’t know, ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence tool that works as a chatbot that can talk to any user in a natural and intuitive way. The resource can also write and “teach” code, articles, scripts on different topics. No wonder the product gained 1 million users in just five days.
