SafeSearch, the search filtering technology, will be enabled for all Google users. The company made the announcement this Tuesday (7) and announced blurs all obscene images in search results.

All people who haven’t enabled SafeSearch yet will have the tool by default. Blurred obscene images contain pornography, violence or blood. There will also be a “view image” button that allows the result to be displayed normally.

Google will notify users when the change becomes standard. But there is still an option to disable the setting. Text filtering and explicit links can also be added.

The date chosen by big tech to make the announcement serves the Safe Internet Day celebrations. It was commemorated in 2004 and is commemorated in more than 150 countries today.

The SafeSearch search filter was created by Google to protect users and families when they come across explicit images. Users under 18 have enabled the tool by default since 2021..

Great tech points out that the filter isn’t 100% accurate, but helps cut down on explicit content. Last year, the company started using artificial intelligence to improve the removal of such content.
