In 2022, North Korean hackers stole more cryptocurrency than in any other year, according to the UN sanctions committee report against the DPRK, cited by Reuters.
Cybersecurity organizations have estimated that the total volume of stolen crypto assets exceeds $1 billion Attackers use malicious software, including through phishing.
One of these attacks targeted employees of companies from different countries, the report says. The attackers contacted individual employees via LinkedIn and then sent messages with malicious files. Often, WhatsApp * messenger was used for this.
In addition, the document provides information about a hacker group associated with the DPRK. They are said to have demanded ransom from some small businesses in various countries.
Most of the attacks were carried out under the control of the Intelligence Directorate of the country’s General Staff, the document says.
