In November 2022, anticipation erupted due to a new law that requires users to access third-party app stores and allows downloading installers from the internet.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman confirmed that Apple will comply with the laws and make appropriate changes in iOS 17. The company will allow exposure to apps hosted outside of the App Store.
According to Gurman, Apple has detected a sudden frequency of external downloads in line with European standards by next year.
Previously, Apple and specifically Tim Cook constantly developed a new law. They argued that if it went into effect, it would “undermine the privacy and security protections” that iPhone users rely on, making people more susceptible to malware, fraud, data tracking and other issues. However, Cupertino residents are required to comply with it, otherwise they face a fine of 20% of their income.
