After the sale of Chelsea in London, Roman Abramovich still has no plans to invest in football assets. Earlier this week, the Russian billionaire’s desire to acquire a club from Brazil was reported.

Abramovich’s representative denied rumors about the purchase of a soccer club in Brazil by a businessman

“The assumption of buying a club in Brazil is not true,” a representative of the businessman told RIA.

In an interview with TASS, Abramovich’s press service clarified that the businessman does not yet plan to acquire any football clubs, not only in Latin America.

This week, the Brazilian edition of Fanaticos reported that several Russian businessmen, including Abramovich, are interested in buying a Brazilian soccer club due to problems with investments in European assets.

Among the possible purchases were Atlético Mineiro and Sao Paulo from the local Serie A, as well as Londrina, who plays in the second division.

Roman Abramovich bought London’s Chelsea for £140m in 2003. After being placed on the UK’s sanctions list last March, the Russian billionaire put the club up for sale. The deal was finalized in May, with a £4.25bn consortium led by US investor Todd Boely becoming the team’s new owner.
