A survey by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) showed that the majority of Russians trust television as their main source of information.
According to the study, central television enjoys the confidence of 53% of citizens. In second place are local TV channels, 47% of Russians trust their information.
Of the other media formats, news, analytics and official websites turned out to be the most popular, being trusted by 35% of citizens. Approximately the same figure for the central and regional press: 33%. 31% of Russians are willing to trust information from various Telegram channels.
Russians still listen to regional and central radio, every fifth inhabitant trusts the information from the receiver.
And according to VTsIOM, instant messengers and social networks turned out to be strangers. The proportion of those who do not trust these sources is today higher (35% and 43%) than the proportion of those who do (27% and 23%).
“Thus, despite the high rate of transformation of the general media landscape under the influence of digital technologies, society continues to rely on the more familiar format to obtain information,” concludes the think tank.
