Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, the market has turned its eyes strongly to the field of artificial intelligence. Created by the company OpenAI, the chatbot is one of the biggest phenomena in internet history, gaining 100 million active users in just two months, something no other app has accomplished in the same amount of time. And as expected, some competitors for the platform are already starting to emerge, such as Google’s Bard.

Bard, also an artificial intelligence chatbot, was introduced by Google last Tuesday (7) and promised to go head-to-head with ChatGPT, which is backed by one of the company’s main competitors, Microsoft. However, the promotional action against Bard contained an informational error that was noticed by several internet users. Actually, Alphabet Inc. (the holding that covers Google) has fallen sharply. So, the start of the new tool was not the best.

Speaking of the fiasco recently, Alphabet’s president, John Hennessy, said that Google was a bit hesitant to launch Bard because the tool wasn’t 100% ready. “I think Google was hesitant to produce this because they thought the product wasn’t ready yet, but I think it’s a great piece of tech as a demo,” he said at the TechSurge Conference last Monday. (13).

Hennessy added that the AI technologies surrounding chatbots are still in their infancy: “I believe these models are just getting started – figuring out how to bring them to a product market and doing it in a way that’s sensitive to issues like toxicity”, he explained in an interview with CNBC. .

Bard’s incorrect answer referred to new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). The chatbot suggested that the telescope was responsible for taking the first pictures of a planet outside the solar system. However, the first images of such a planet were taken in 2004 using the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope (VLT).
