As such, the company acknowledged that the chatbot faced “difficulties in finding answers that require very up-to-date data, such as live sports results.”

Among other things, they discovered that “in long, long chat sessions of 15 questions or more, Bing can repeat itself or write answers that aren’t always helpful and also don’t match our intended style.” They believe this is due to several factors:

  • Very long chat sessions. They may confuse the model as to what questions it answers, and so the company thinks it may need to update the context or add a tool to make it easier to start from scratch.

  • The company states that the model will sometimes try to respond or reflect in the tone that they are asked to respond to, which can lead to a response style that we did not intend. “This is not a trivial scenario… so most of you won’t experience it.”.

The company writes that it is still finalizing the new tool, so more updates will be released in the future aimed at improving the experience of using ChatGPT on the Bing search engine.
