An experiment on mice showed that even moderate alcohol can accelerate the death of brain cells and increase the number of amyloid plaques. Interestingly, withdrawal also increases levels of beta-amyloid, a protein that is a key component of amyloid plaques.
It is also known to be affected by increased blood sugar.
