Birds (especially parrots) speak with the help of a special vocal organ, the syrinx. It has a Y-shaped structure and is located between the base of the trachea and the lungs.
When a bird breathes, air passes through the syrinx. This organ vibrates and makes sounds in response. A series of muscle and soft bony rings on the outside of the syrinx are responsible for the shape of the murmur. Thanks to this, parrots can sing, talk and imitate human speech.
