according to website Sleep Computer, Microsoft started making native VPN available in Edge browser for some users and may soon make the feature free for all users.

Microsoft Edge’s native VPN, called Edge Secure Network, uses Cloudflare technologies (a company focused on the security of apps, websites, APIs, and other resources) to provide safer browsing and less prone to leaks. Edge encrypts the connection via routes on Cloudflare, making user data more “hidden” from criminal attacks.

According to the publication, the tool has been in development for about a year and is finally being tested by some selected users. However, if all goes well, Edge Secure Network can be used by anyone with Microsoft Edge on their device.

Edge VPN details

When the user turns on the feature, Microsoft Edge VPN sends all traffic over an encrypted tunnel to create a secure connection. This means that all URLs, including the most suspicious HTTP ones, are more accessible because browsing data is still protected even though the app is not recommended.

However, it is important to note that Edge Secure Network is not a replacement for a more robust VPN tool, as it does not have all the functionality that a dedicated resource has.

Microsoft’s product for example it doesn’t allow selection of connection regions and may not work the same for streaming (i.e. you cannot access Netflix and other platforms if these contents are blocked by the VPN).
