Clinical trials have shown that a drug used to treat psoriasis significantly reduces alcohol consumption by more than 50% in people addicted to alcohol. “We are incredibly happy to have found a drug that has such a large impact on alcohol consumption and also has such good tolerability and safety,” the scientists said.
On average, participants drank about five drinks a day at the start of the study. People who took the placebo were still drinking about five drinks a day at the end of the study. Those who took the real drug reduced their alcohol consumption to two glasses a day.
