Contrary to what many people think, Facebook continues to grow day by day. At least, so says Tom Alison, Meta’s platform leader, celebrating the impressive milestone of 2 billion daily active users – the highest number the social network has ever had. To continue supporting its growth, Facebook is now betting heavily on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help people search for content (text, photo or video) on the network.

In her post celebrating the latest milestone, Alison details how artificial intelligence is used to help users find what they want and might be interested in, while trying to encourage more creators on the platform.

“There has been a change in the last few years as people come to Facebook more to have fun, discover something new, or see what’s going on in the world. These new reasons are why we’re investing in AI-powered discovery.” specifies execution.

According to the published text, Facebook uses artificial intelligence to recommend Reels content, photos, text, groups, videos and “more” to users. Recommendations are refined based on feedback from users, who may choose to see more or less of the recommended type of content.

Refocus on creators

People at Facebook know that the social network is not the platform of choice for content creators, but they believe its increased presence on the site is part of what motivates the focus on AI.

Facebook promises to help creators find the right audience for their content with recommendations made by artificial intelligence, and vice versa, users will receive indicators that are really interesting to them.

Meta wants to bet on the creators.

“We’ve invested heavily in developing tools for creators. We’re working to drastically simplify the Facebook experience for creators by offering more forms for creative expression, providing tools to help grow and manage fan communities, and expand ways to monetize as a community.
