By 2023, the number of cyber attacks on Russian companies will grow by at least 50%. Artem Izbaenkov, Director of Cybersecurity Development at EdgeCenter, a member of the Skolkovo Foundation, told RB.RU that now, more than ever, companies need to build cyber defense.
Artem Izbaenkov named five main cybersecurity challenges that, in his opinion, Russian companies may face in 2023.
Identity fraud
This scam technique can lead to the theft of money, breach of data security and penetration into the company’s internal circuit.
Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are now being introduced almost everywhere, but attackers can use them for phishing attacks. For example, attackers can use AI to create fake websites that look completely real or fake emails that are highly personalized and match the victim’s profile.
Malware
Malware can infiltrate computer systems through email, websites, network vulnerabilities, and other means. Given recent events, Russian companies are under continuous attack from all over the world, Izbaenkov stressed.
Criminals are constantly using new methods of interacting with the victim. Russian companies must always be vigilant, analyze any suspicious activity and have proven protection scenarios.
DDoS attacks
Such attacks can cause site outage and loss of access to important data, disable Internet channels in offices, data centers, and even large telecom operators.
According to the expert, there is now a decrease in DDoS attacks, but this is only a pause: this year, companies will face the most intelligent attacks at the application level.
data breach
A data breach is an event in which the sensitive data of a business or its customers may be compromised, stolen, or used illegally. This can lead to the leakage and theft of confidential information, violation of the legislation on the protection of personal data.
Inadequate employee protection
According to Izbaenkov, the human factor can be one of the main causes of cyber attacks. Lack of employee cybersecurity can result in misusing passwords, opening malicious emails and documents, forgery, etc.
The specialist emphasized that it is important to educate employees on proper cyber hygiene and provide access to reliable tools and technologies to ensure data security and protection against cyber attacks. One of the tools is to carry out internal phishing mailings, which allow the internal information security service to identify potentially dangerous places and train their colleagues in time.
Other cyber challenges include vulnerabilities in network protocols and operating systems, unauthorized access to corporate resources, identity theft, espionage, and many others.
To protect businesses from cyber threats, businesses need to take a wide range of measures, including regular security audits, installing security software and updating security systems, regular cybersecurity training for employees, etc. .
Artem Izbaenkov emphasized that cybersecurity is a continuous process and companies must constantly improve their protection measures and adapt to new threats.
