At least 250 illegal streaming sites were blocked during the operation carried out by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) kicked off in several states this Tuesday (14). Operation 404 also targets UK and Peru-based pages accused of hacking.
Operation in Brazil to combat the unauthorized distribution of copyrighted content, Block 102 illegal streaming and gaming sites and 63 music apps. There were also more than 100 dynamic space blocks that prevented the material from being projected onto other pages.
Six messaging apps with more than 4,000 subscribers were also shut down., sharing songs that have not yet been officially released. The operation included de-indexing search service platforms, preventing them from appearing on Google and other search engines, and deleting accounts on social networks.
MJSP also announced, in partnership with the Civil Police, that search and seizure orders were carried out at the addresses of persons linked to the piracy. In this action, four people were arrested in São Paulo and one person in Minas Gerais, in addition to the confiscation of computers and HDs used in illegal activities.
Thousands of blocked platforms
Today’s action is also Block 25 pirate sites in the UK and 72 in Peruis part of the fifth stage Operation 404. The anti-digital piracy campaign launched in 2019 has since led to numerous arrests, in addition to the removal of more than 1,000 illegal streaming platforms and apps.
According to the agency, people arrested for sharing copyrighted content could be sentenced to two to four years in prison and have to pay a fine. Those investigated are also likely to be prosecuted for complicity and money laundering charges, depending on the type of activity undertaken.
Various steps have been taken in recent months to close the siege on illegal streaming services in Brazil, such as blocking TV Box devices not approved by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) in early March.
