According to the user, this was possible due to a glitch in the “smartphone as key” functionality. Rajesh Randev said he was able to start the car because the Tesla phone app allowed access to someone else’s electric car.

Another driver involved in the confusion managed to unlock Rendezvous’s car with his Tesla key card and called Rendezvous, finding his phone number inside.

After that, Randev returned someone else’s car and drove his own without any problems. However, what happened, according to the owner of the car, caused him to doubt the safety of Tesla technologies.
