Russian companies are experiencing a shortage of entry-level (junior) IT specialists. The number of vacancies is twice the number of resumes. In this context, companies began to employ students more frequently and hire temporary employees.

Russian companies are experiencing a shortage of “joon”

In 2022, more than 67 thousand vacancies for IT specialists without work experience and approximately 310 thousand for employees with work experience of one to three years were published on the market. At the same time, the total number of applicants in these categories is 214 thousand people, reported Kommersant citing a study by Skillbox and HeadHunter.

The business representatives themselves ensure that up to now the priority continues to be medium and high level specialists. However, the publication’s interlocutors in the IT market say that companies are increasingly hiring junior specialists, especially if they are running out of government contracts.

  • Last spring, the demand for online training in IT professions grew sharply in Russia. Spending on courses in the field of design, analysis and other areas increased by 30-40% during the year. At the same time, the total number of course purchases across all topics decreased by 10% and spending by 7%.
