The company says the P2 Zip can fly 10 miles in ten minutes. A company spokesperson said fast drone delivery could put an end to “porch hacks”, referring to the theft of packages left on the doorstep while a customer is absent.
The original P1 Zip drone has a glider-like design, while the P2 uses both lift and propeller and a fixed wing. This helps it maneuver accurately even in rainy or windy conditions.
The P1 Zip also had to return to base, where the employee loaded it with a freshly charged battery. The new P2 Zip can be docked independently to a charging station that looks like a streetlight.
