In previous studies, scientists have found that a lack of nighttime sleep, as well as daytime sleepiness, is associated with a higher risk of coronary heart disease. This disease, like peripheral arterial disease, occurs due to blockage of the arteries. In addition, one of the most common complaints in peripheral arterial disease is sleep problems.

During the new study, experts analyzed data from more than 650,000 people. It turned out that sleeping less than 5 hours a day was associated with almost twice the risk of developing peripheral artery disease compared to sleeping 7-8 hours a day.

Also, people who slept during the day were 32% more likely to develop peripheral artery disease than those who did not sleep during the day.
