Italian automaker Ferrari reveals it was the victim of a data breach after receiving a ransom demand from the invaders. According to the information obtained, cybercriminals gained access to some of the brand’s information systems.

“We regret to inform you of a cyber incident in which an unauthorized agent was able to gain access to a limited number of systems in our IT environment,” the manufacturer’s statement sent to customers reads.

According to Ferrari, The data exposed in the leak includes customers’ names, addresses, emails and phone numbers. So far, the automaker has not been able to obtain details on whether bank details and other confidential information were accessed or stolen.

The luxury car brand also said in the statement that it was contacted by a “threat agent” with a ransom demand regarding customer data. Therefore, it launched an investigation with the support of a global third-party cybersecurity company.

After the violation was noticed, Ferrari also reported the attack to the authorities. Thanks to this, there is a large team working to explore the impact of the information leak.
