On April 30, the first solar eclipse of the year will take place, when the Moon will cover a maximum of 54% of the Sun, as if our star was “bitten”. In the partial type, the phenomenon will not be seen in the southeast of the Pacific Ocean and south of South America, especially in Argentina, but not in Brazil. Its summit will take place at 17:41 Brazilian time. That’s why it’s called a “sunset eclipse”.

This phenomenon will be much more discreet in Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, southern Peru and even other countries in the South American continent. Some cities in the westernmost part of Rio Grande do Sul, such as Uruguaywhere, according to astronomers, it would be possible to observe a “small piece” of the eclipse.

April astronomical events

As it is only visible in Antarctica and southwestern South America, the partial solar eclipse at the end of April did not generate great activity among eclipse hunters who might prefer to invest in more “dark” events. In these cases – total eclipses – the Moon is positioned exactly between the Earth and the Sun, creating an area completely free of sunlight.

During the month of April, which is considered as the month of Astronomy by “Astronomers Without Borders”, some other phenomena are still happening. In addition to the New Moon, which lasts until this Wednesday (6) and is a good time to observe constellations, the moon also includes: A meteor shower on the 22nd and 23rdand on the 29th, the planet’s supposedly largest eastern extension, it’s time for better observation of Mercury.
