Microsoft has struggled for years to compete with giant Google in the $120 billion search market, but now, thanks to OpenAI technology, the company is gaining ground. ChatGPT’s integration with Bing provides search engine support, increase page views by about 16%.
Similar web data from February shows an increase in visits to Bing pages since Microsoft launched its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered search engine. Google saw a drop of about 1%.
According to app search company Data.ai, app downloads for Bing increased eightfold worldwide after the chatbot integration, while downloads for the Google search app fell 2%. However, most iOS and Android devices continue to use Alphabet’s service by default.
Google still reigns
Despite the development of Bing, Google has dominated the search engine market since the early 2000s.when it replaced Yahoo Search. Since then, the platform has consolidated 80% of reach in the industry, with slight variations at times.
In January, when language models were not yet integrated into searches, Alphabet’s platform registered more than 80 billion visits, 10% less than in December last year, when it had 88 billion reach. But during this period, Microsoft’s service only had 1 billion reach and remained stable.
With the official launch of Bard, there tends to be a greater balance between search services. The AI is still in an experimental stage and is limited to certain users in the United States and United Kingdom only.
