The US state of Utah has banned children from using social media without parental consent. In addition, it was prohibited to establish advertising directed at children’s accounts and collect personal information about their holders.
On the signing of two laws that restrict children in the use of social networks, said the Governor of Utah in the United States, Spencer Cox. An explanation of the initiatives has been posted on the state website.
Minors, that is, people under the age of 18, must provide social networks with parental consent to use such resources. The responsibility of verifying this information was assigned to social networks.
Parents will be able to gain full access to an underage child’s account, prevent them from corresponding with people not on their friends list, and hide user credentials from search results. Additionally, parents have the right to impose a curfew on their children’s use of social media.
Also in Utah, the law will prohibit social networks from collecting personal data from underage account holders, as well as placing advertising directed at them and using designs or features that cause addiction in children.
