The Ministry has developed a project that proposes to change the rules for the central management of the public communication network. The document assumes that among the threats that need to be filtered, you should promote sites that allow you to anonymize Internet users. For example, services that allow you to log in to websites and instant messengers using a virtual phone number. If the changes are passed by the government, they will take effect on March 1, 2024.
Roskomnadzor believes that access to sites that provide registration through virtual numbers “promotes the illegal use of communication services” and violates Internet security in Russia. Evgeny Kravchenko, also an expert at the DRC law firm, emphasized that using virtual numbers in Russia is not prohibited (unless a crime has been committed with their help).
