Walt Disney Company. As part of a large-scale reduction of 7,000 employees, Marvel president Isaac Perlmutter has been ousted from the job, the Financial Time newspaper reported. This management decision was preceded by a conflict with the CEO of the company, Bob Iger.
Previously, Perlmutter supported investor Nelson Peltz, who wanted a seat on the company’s board of directors. This idea did not please the CEO, so Iger announced his intention to cut costs. After that, Peltz refused to claim a seat on the board of directors.
In the context of the dismissal, the publication recalls another situation of conflict between senior managers. So, in 2015, Iger restructured Marvel in such a way that producer and head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige began reporting directly to Disney management, bypassing Marvel representatives. According to the publication, Perlmutter did not like this decision.
Previously, Disney disbanded the team it formed to create its metaverse. Specialists should be able to suggest new interactive formats for famous Disney characters.
Unlike the rest of the team, former consumer products manager Mike White, who was also hired for the role, has retained his position with the company.
In February, Disney announced three layoffs as part of a mass layoff of 7,000 people. Therefore, the company wants to save up to $5.5 billion.
