The Russian business travel service Smartway became the owner of the Travelmart business travel agency. Ilya Vagner, Smartway’s Business Development Director, announced the deal on his Facebook* page.

Russian business travel service Smartway bought business travel agency Travelmart

“The idea is this: on the basis of the acquired agencies, build a network of players specialized in segments, for example, rotary transport, MICE, etc. All participants will work under unique vendor contracts, and will also have access to our financial instruments, expertise, and IT opportunities,” Wagner said.

According to his estimates, the size of the business travel market in Russia is at least 600 billion rubles and “there is still no truly dominant player.”

RB.RU turned to Smartway for additional comment.

Last July, Smartway also bought the A&A hotel reservation system. It was reported that the amount of the transaction will be between $3 and $5 million, depending on the results of A&A, and Smartway will take 7.5% of the business travel market through the transaction.

Smartway is 51% owned by 1C, the service was founded by Maxim Yaremko.
