Scammers have found another way to steal usernames from Telegram groups. It relies on the case sensitivity of Messenger characters when typing channel names.
For example, if instead of a lowercase “L” you write a capital “I”, then outwardly it will look absolutely identical, the Moshelovka experts told Izvestia.
Scammers simply need to create a clone of an account with a different symbol and fill it with stolen photos. This makes it much easier for attackers to trick their victim’s channel audience and contact list into following phishing links and sending money.
According to experts, this technique has existed for a long time. However, in the past, scammers used homoglyphs: graphically the same or similar characters that have different meanings.
