The study analyzed data from 92,221 people aged 40 to 73. Participants wore trackers that tracked their physical activity.
This was defined as a short night’s sleep duration if a person slept less than six hours, a normal night’s sleep if between six and eight hours, and a long night’s sleep if more than eight hours. As for physical exercises, their number was also divided into categories: low, medium and high.
It turned out that people who did low exercise and had short and long sleep duration had a 16% and 37% higher risk of death from all causes. For those who exercised, only short periods of sleep were harmful: It increased the probability of death from all causes by 41%. Those who exercise a lot have never suffered from poor sleep.
