A company loses up to 20% of its revenue due to understaffing at points of sale, SmartMetrics analysts calculated after analyzing camera data from 1,200 stores using machine learning.

90% of sellers do not inform buyers about promotions: study

The study showed that 90% of sellers do not inform buyers about promotions and 70% do not offer additional products to buyers. These two lapses alone account for up to 14% of the total revenue loss for retailers.

The indiscipline of the staff also reduces income: 30% of the outlets open or close after hours, some do not completely fill the store shelves. In addition, the income of the outlets is reduced if the room is dirty or the products are on the floor.

According to Rosstat, by the end of 2022, the turnover of the retail industry in Russia decreased by 2.84 trillion rubles compared to 2021. SmartMetrics believes that this is influenced by consumer savings and disrupted communication scenarios with the clients.

“According to our estimates, the damage to retailers from this can reach 20% of revenue,” said Ilnar Safin, CEO of Smart Technologies LLC.
